Camping Necessities: Part 1

Writer's picture: Jackie HavelJackie Havel

I grew up camping with my family at a small state park in northern Minnesota. I have a lot of fond memories of that time in my childhood. I knew that when I had my own family one day, I wanted to create those memories with my kids by going on camping trips.

We purchased a class A motorhome in 2020 and loved that motorhome for three years before we sold it in the fall of 2023. This past weekend, we visited Michigan to pick up our newest class C motorhome.

As I prepare our new motorhome for our upcoming adventures, I wanted to share some of my favorite camping necessities (with links included)!

  1. Sillicon refillable travel bottles that hold your favorite shampoo, conditioner, lotion, face wash, dish soap, etc. These can be used not only for camping but also for travel in general.

  2. A collapsable outdoor garbage. It's perfect for compact storage when not in use.

  3. Camping chairs for the whole family. My husband and I like oversized anti-gravity chairs like these here, while my kids like chairs more like this. If you want to splurge, check out these HEATED Kuma camping chairs.

  4. In my opinion, the ultimate camping grill is the Blackstone griddle. The 28" cooktop is perfect for our family—it's not too big or too small. Our favorite camping meal is making hibachi chicken with vegetables and fried rice. Speaking of hibachi, these spatulas are SO GOOD.

  5. Squeeze bottles for cooking oil and water to use with your Blackstone. You can pick these up anywhere, but Blackstone has a specific set they sell.

  6. Swedish dishcloths are essential for any kitchen, even while camping. These cute camping-themed dish towels are also great because they dry faster than regular dishcloths.

  7. Mosquito Beater not only keeps those pesky bugs at bay but also smells nice. Remember to pack bug spray and SPF, too!

  8. Make a First Aid Kit with a plastic lidded tote. Include items like bandages, wound cream, anti-itch cream, pain medication (for both kids and adults, as needed), motion sickness remedies, allergy medication, saline solution, rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, cotton swabs, and other miscellaneous body care necessities such as a fingernail clipper and nail file. This is a premade kit if you don't want to make your own.

That's all I have for part one. Keep your eyes open for part two!
